Black Walnut ‘dumb bell’ Rattle with inlay

This Black Walnut Rattle has a ‘dumb bell’ configuration (gourd at both ends) and measures 13 inches. This Black Walnut came down on our mountain land years ago and has been made into many beautiful Rattles. I have adorned this lovely wood with inlay of powdered Mica. It feels good, and solid, in your hand.

I have used two different gourds intentionally. Their different sound creates an interesting dynamic. Shaking this Rattle in many different ways creates a wide variety of sounds. Either end can also be played alone. The gourds have their naturally mottled color, are filled with popcorn and topped with tiny Cedar dowels. Their chorus of sound is warm, comforting and inviting.
